This weather vane atop the sanctuary belfry was purchased when the sanctuary was built, in 1839. The construction account book says that it was bought from J. R. Millikin for $100.37. Elsewhere in the account book, there is the name of Josiah Millikin, from whom boards were bought. It is not known if Josiah and J.R. are the same person. One payment of $30 is made to “Millikin, Portland.” There were no Milliken’s living in New Gloucester at that time.
