Favorite Poetry Night

2011 April 9
by admin

…was WONDERFUL!

On Friday, April 8, at 7 pm, a nice crowd of lovers of poetry gathered in the Vestry Community Room by candlelight, consuming coffee, tea, luscious deserts and at least 50 poems.

There were 22 folks, ranging in age from 4 to 90.   Most of the poets represented were American favorites(Robert Frost, Mary Oliver, Billy Collins), but we also had quite a few writers in the room, reading from their own work.  Who knew?

Both New Gloucester Public Library librarians were enthusiastic participants.  Sadly, we had no teens, as the date conflicted with a talent show at the high school, but we did have support and encouragement from the school librarians.  And everyone agreed: this should not be the last Favorite Poetry Night.
