The First Congregational Church has been a focal point of the community since its founding. Everyone is welcomed to join in our community and church events. When events cost, all proceeds after expenses (paying the band, for instance), goes to support the church’s missions.
If you have events to add or details to update, please contact the church.
Events to watch for!
This is a list of the church’s annual and monthly events, as well as other events that are held in church spaces. Check the church calendar or visit News & Events page for specific details.

Advent Potluck
Celebrate the beginning of Advent with the annual town treelighting, cookies at the library, followed by a potluck with your neighbors.
Apple Pie Sale
Who doesn’t love apple pie in the fall? All proceeds go to the church’s missions.
Bean suppers, potlucks, game and movie nights
Sharing food, games, and movies are in the works. Got a movie you want to see? A game you want to share? Help us organize this.
Community Barn Dance
Bring the entire family and dance to the band Upmarket Mile as local caller Kathryn Larson leads us in folk, contra, and square dancing. Everyone is invited; no experience necessary. Come for the live music and lively conversation (and tasty snacks).
Freeport Community Band and Coastal Winds Concert Band
These local community bands perform at our church inside and out, weather permitting, in July and during the holiday season. Enjoy favorites and standards, as well as new works.
Halloween Warmup Station
Stop by the church on Halloween to relax, read, color, and warm up with hot cider and popcorn.
Monthly Book Study
Please join the conversation as we dive into spiritually inspired books. While reading the book beforehand is advised, anyone is invited to participate. Check with the libraries if purchasing the book is not an option. If financial assistance is needed, please speak with Pastor Sheri.
Music Sunday
On Music Sunday, services are given over to the choir and the handbell choir, and other musicians in the church. Join us in June and other times of the year.
Rally Sunday (Sundae)
When school starts and vacations dwindle, our brains get the signal that it’s time to get back into our usual routines, which include church activities. Many congregations see this as a time to “rally” folks back into the building with Sunday School, choir practices, and a new lectionary season: Rally Sunday (or Rally Sundae)!
Stitchers and Coffee
Do you like to knit? Crochet? Embroider? Join us every week to stitch and knit, swap tips, drink some coffee, and spill some tea.
Village Coffeehouse
Bring your friends and family of all ages to the church to listen to live music from Maine musicians, often bluegrass or country. Tap your toes, dance, and enjoy light refreshments. All proceeds go to the church’s missions.
Community events at the church
BLING New Gloucester
BLING, or Building Livability in New Gloucester, uses the church space for some of its programming, such as its window dressers project.
Medium Jam
New Gloucester’s Medium Jam is a great venue for musicians to come together and make music with each other. New musicians looking to play with others, seasoned musicians wanting to work out a tune, ear players, sheet music players — everyone is welcome.
